I believe statisticians say a negative record is just as important as a positive. Well, for much of my hour battling against the wind this afternoon it looked as if I might be sending a negative report because there was neither sight nor sound of a single bird! Then, the song of a Dunnock and the clucking of a Blackbird before a few corvids (Jackdaws, Rooks and a Carrion Crow) made their presence known. Finally, riches beyond the dreams of avarice in the shape of the first 2 Mistle Thrushes that I have seen here this year, with a single Redwing. Bliss.

Hooligan Gull - Update
Attached are two new photos by Simon Mackie of the Hooligan Gull, the strange gull which resides at the Picnic Site at Chew - now nicknamed by all and sundry as the 'Hooligan Gull'. It is staying around and is very confiding, spending much of its time sitting on the wooden barriers with the Black-headed Gulls. It is approachable down to about 10 feet. Aside from all it's other features, what is most intriguing is the fact that the bird has such short legs!
For comparison, the third photo is of a definite Heuglin's Gull that Richard Mielcarek sent me - apparently taken in Kuwait by Danielle Occhiato, where they winter. Similar or what?!

Hooligan Gull
Attached are two photos of the strange gull which resides at the Picnic Site at Chew - now nicknamed by all and sundry as the 'Hooligan Gull'. It was there all day and it is very confiding, spending much of its time sitting on the wooden barriers with the Black-headed Gulls. It was approachable down to about 10 feet. For comparison, the third photo is of a definite Heuglin's Gull that Richard Mielcarek sent me - apparently taken in Kuwait, where they winter. Similar or what?! Keith Vinicombe
