31st July '17 Monday - Turnstone

Our first anniversary today - the BOC took over the blog this time last year, and we're still going strong...

Mostly nice but a few showers, heavy at times.

BRISTOL

Stockwood Open Space:
2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 6 Whitethroat, 8 Blackcap, 10 Goldfinch.

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Oldbury Power Station:
12 Tufted Duck (2 ad, 10 well-grown juv), 1 Peregrine, 3 Curlew, 7 Black-tailed Godwit (flying down channel), 3 Common Sandpiper, 12 Dunlin (Shepperdine, flying down channel), 15 Turnstone, 60+ House Sparrow (at Yacht Club).

Good day with 105 birds caught - nice fall of warblers, 16 Willow Warblers and 14 Chiffchaff.

Aust Warth:
4 Common Sandpiper.

New Passage/Northwick Warth:
1 Egyptian Goose, 1 Little Egret, 5 Little Grebe, 9 Black-tailed Godwit, 25 Turnstone (200 reported), 1 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper, 50 Redshank, Swifts in transit.

1 Redstart, 50 House Martin.

Chipping Sodbury Common:
3 Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, 3 Stock Dove, 1 Redstart, 1 Whinchat, c.30 Goldfinch (feeding on thistles), 1 Bullfinch.

Warmley:
1 Swift, 2 Raven.


NORTH SOMERSET:

Kenn Moor:
1 Grey Heron, 2 Buzzard, 1 Stock Dove, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Reed Warbler, 9 Mistle Thrush, 2 Raven, 2 Bullfinch, 3 Linnet, 1 Reed Bunting.

Bristol Airport:
c.50 Swift (possibly moving ahead of a storm).

Newton St Loe:
1 Little Egret, 4 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel, 2 Stock Dove, 9 Swift, 3 Green Woodpecker, 2 Kingfisher, 50+ Barn Swallow, 25+ House Martin, 3 Chiffchaff, 4 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Nuthatch, 2 Jay.

Paulton:
1 Grey Heron, 2 Buzzard, 1 Reed Warbler, 7 Chiffchaff.

(Sewage Treatment Works)  1 Sparrowhawk, 5 Grey Wagtail, 40 House Martin.


RESERVOIRS:

An aberrant Coot in the Chew flock (Ian Stapp)

40+ Swift, 80+ Sand Martin, 40+ House Martin, 30+ Swallow (most in the villages).

Woodford:
24 Canada Goose, 1 Barnacle Goose, 1 Oystercatcher (on the fish pen).

134 Canada Goose, 2 Little Grebe, 3 Common Sandpiper, 1 adult Turnstone on the dam wall, 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 10 House Martin, 5 House Sparrow.

Moreton:
208 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Green Sandpiper, 7 Jay (family group), 7 G BB Gull, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, lots Reed Warbler.  Marsh Harrier seen from here too.
