13th July '17 - trickle of early migrants

Weather warm and sunny, a nice July day

Mediterranean Gull, Whinchat, Redstart

2 Canada Goose, 8 Mallard, 1 Cormorant, 3 Moorhen, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Reed Warbler

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

New Passage:
5 Mute Swan, 7 Canada Goose, 1 Cormorant, 3 Little Grebe, 2 Moorhen, 7 Coot, c. 30 Lapwing, 14 Dunlin, 45 Redshank, c. 130 BH Gull, 1 2nd calendar year Mediterranean Gull, 2 Skylark, c.30 Sand Martin, 20 House Martin, 40 Swallow, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Reed Warbler.

Also: butterflies - many Gatekeepers,  also Meadow Brown, Red Admiral, White sp.
Dragonflies: 1 Emperor, 2 Black-tailed Skimmer

Pilning wetland:
2 Little Ringed Plover, Black-tailed Godwit 2, 1 juv Green Sandpiper, 12  Dunlin, 2 Green Woodpecker, many Sand Martin, 1 juvenile  Yellow Wagtail.

Chipping Sodbury Common:
At least 6 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Common Redstart, 2 Whinchat

15 Herring Gull, 40+ Linnet

Weston Moor:
Wheatear at Weston Moor (Melvyn Hedges)
Kenn Moor:
12 Mute Swan, 3 Heron, 4 Buzzard, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Kingfisher, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker,
2 Raven, 7 Skylark, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff ( warblers all singing),

Weston Airfield:

A Tawny Owl perched in sun within 20 metres of public footpath being mobbed by small birds

Heron's Green:

206 Great-crested Grebe (in a raft on the lake), 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk,  1 Water Rail, 138 Coot, 1 Redshank, 2 Green Sandpiper, 3 GBB Gull, 1 Little Gull (sat on a buoy), 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Jay,  5+ Reed Warbler (all juveniles in reeds with juvenile Tit sp),  2 Reed Bunting
