26th June '17 Monday - Kites at Chew

Mainly overcast but dry, mild and pleasant with little wind.

Tawny Owl - early morning company for an insomniac.

Frenchay:
Greenfinch back on the feeders, 8 counted inc juv, with more in the bushes.

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Oldbury Power Station:
Tufted Duck broods of 10 and 8, 2 juv Green Woodpecker (Lagoon 1), plenty of Swallows, Cetti's Warbler, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting.

1 Mute Swan, 36 Shelduck, 2 Teal, 15 Mallard, 6 Tufted Duck chicks, 1 ad. Little Egret, 3 Little Grebe, 33 Oystercatcher, 12 Lapwing, Little Ringed Plover, 14 Curlew, 1 ad Green Sandpiper (back pool), 11 Redshank, 27 Black-headed Gull ("loving the return of the BHGulls (1st juv last night)"), 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Skylark, 2 Swallow, Sand Martin, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Blackcap, 1 Whitethroat, 4 Sedge Warbler, 5 Reed Warbler, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 150 + Starling, 12+ Pied Wagtail, 6 Goldfinch, 2 m. Reed Bunting.

Chestle Pill:
3 Reed Warbler, 1 Mistle Thrush.

Clevedon-Yeo:
22 Mute Swan, 1 Canada Goose. 35 ad. Shelduck adults with some very early broods totalling 65 juvs. 40+ Mallard, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 Cormorant, 1 Little Grebe, 8 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron (inc 3 juvs), 8 Oystercatcher, 1 Whimbrel, c. 50 Curlew, 3 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper, 10 Redshank, 45 Black-headed Gull, 15 LBB Gull, 25 Herring Gull, 1 Stock Dove, 1 Swift, 1 Kestrel, 1 Peregrine, 80+ Jackdaw, 4+ Swallow, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 6 Reed Warbler, 3 Whitethroat, 50 Linnet, 1 Reed Bunting.

Sand Bay/Kewstoke:
Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat all heard singing.


BELOW M4 & BANES

Marshfield:
At least 6 singing Corn Buntings on Down Road but couldn't hear any Quail - maybe not singing in mid-morning?

Bath:
(BBS at Northend): Stock Dove, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Swift (low number) and most unusually, no Swallow, but at least a dozen House Martin at nests.


RESERVOIRS:

160+ Great Crested Grebe in one large raft on the main lake.

Dam:
85 Canada Goose, 2 Egyptian Goose, Common Sandpiper, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 12 juv. Pied Wagtail, 2 Bullfinch.

Woodford:
 60+ Swallow, 20 martin sp.

Heron's Green:
60 Canada Goose, 1 Egyptian Goose, 2 Lapwing, 8 Pied Wagtail (6 of them juv).

Moreton:
1 Sparrowhawk, 2 GBB Gull, 1 Tawny Owl (calling), Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 3 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 4+ Reed Warbler, 4 Jay.

Herriotts End:
1 Shelduck, 1 Little Egret, 6+ Red Kite, 28 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 2 Redshank, 1 Common Gull. 1 GBB Gull, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Grey Wagtail.
