16th May '17 Tuesday - wet!

Dismal weather - overcast early, then raining after 10 a.m.  Mild anyway.

Whimbrels on WeBS counts.  Hobby and Cuckoo.

5 Tufted Duck, 2 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Oystercatcher, 2 Whimbrel, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Mistle Thrush.

Severn Beach:
House Martins nest-building.


NORTH SOMERSET:

Clevedon-Yeo:
8 Canada Goose, 60+ Shelduck (and one brood of 8 or 9 - early; the brood was being "mobbed" ("mothered") by about 30 adults, all jostling one another to take over some of the chicks which were being scattered by the activity!).  25+ Mallard, 1 Tufted Duck, 3 Little Egret, 8 Oystercatcher, 4 Lapwing, 15+ Ringed Plover, 14 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 75 Dunlin (mostly schnizii but at least one arctica), 2 Redshank, 45 LBB Gull, 80 Herriing Gull, 30+ Swallow, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 3 Wheatear (seemed "quite big" so possibly Greenland), c. 8 Linnet.

Weston-Super-Mare:
1 Kestrel at Churchill Academy, 4 Swift over Locking.

Uphill (WeBS count):
1 Cormorant, 6 Little Egret, 68 Shelduck, 10 Mallard, 6 Oystercatcher, 1 Whimbrel, 15 Dunlin, 1 adult BH Gull, 10+ LBB Gull, 117 Herring Gull. 1 Stock Dove, 1 Cuckoo calling, 2 Swallow, 1 singing Chiffchaff.

2 Sand Martin over the R Avon in central Bath.
2 Raven flying from Lower Weston towards Lansdown.

Blagdon Lake:
1 Egyptian Goose, 1 Hobby at Top End, hundreds of Swift, a few Swallow and House Martin.
