Sightings 10/5/16

10/5/16 Dalmatian Pelican (Dave Gibbs)
The Cornwall bird which is causing such a stir (potential 1st for the UK)

Summary:
Rain and very low cloud all day which brought down some passing Terns.
A Whiskered Tern at the Oldbury coast was the outstanding single bird highlight today.

Masses of wader stuff on Severnside, good numbers of Grey Plover of particular note.


Montpelier (Bristol):
Station: 1 Sedge Warbler.

Oldbury Power Station:
Whiskered Tern: 1 was seen early morning, close in on the Tidal Res with about 45 other mixed Terns (Pete Hazelwood).
A great rarity for Avon, only 4 records 1959-2013.

New Passage-Northwick:
Temminck's Stint: Still present on the wetland, mobile around the various pools.
Other stuff shore & wetland, 4 Canada Goose, 55 Shelduck, 10 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 6 Tufted Duck, 4 Little Egret, 1 Hobby, 40 Oystercatcher, 4 Little Ringed Plover, 92 Ringed Plover, 75 Grey Plover, 5 Knot, 15 Sanderling, 1 Little Stint new, 40 Dunlin, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 1 Common Sandpiper, 14 Redshank, 4 Turnstone, 1 Little Tern up, 11 BH Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 45 Swift through, 200 mixed Swallow/House Martin, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 11 Yellow Wagtail.

1 Tufted Duck up, 20 Ringed Plover, 42 Grey Plover, 3 Knot, 6 Sanderling, 40 Dunlin, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Common Sandpiper, 100+ Arctic Tern (Paul Bowerman), 20 Commic Tern up, 4 Swift, 50 Swallow.

Portbury Dock:
14 Ringed Plover, 7 Grey Plover, 2 Knot, 2 Sanderling, 55 Dunlin, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Whimbrel, 4 Greenshank, 4 Common Sandpiper, 6 Turnstone (Chris Stone).

10 Mute Swan + a breeding pair, 2 Wigeon still, 1 Kestrel, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 4 Dunlin, 4 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 40 Redshank, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 5 Bullfinch.

Portishead:
Down Rd: 6 Siskin on the feeders.

Bath:
Broadmoor Lane: 1 flyover Red Kite 12.55pm (Derek Angell).
Weston: 1 Grasshopper Warbler, garden.

Barrow Tanks:
6 Common Sandpiper, 2 Redshank.

Blagdon Lake:
1 Common Sandpiper, 1 BH Gull of note.

Planet Chew:
1 Egyptian Goose, 2 Wigeon, 2 Hobby, 1 Dunlin, 5 Common Sandpiper, 10 Black Tern, 20 Common Tern, 6 Arctic Tern, 4 Cuckoo, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Sand Martin, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroat,
Most Terns seen in the evening.
