Sightings 19/1/16

Quite a few Bristol city reports today.

Stockwood (Bristol):
Open Space: 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 15 Blackbird, 2 Song Thrush, 1 Nuthatch, 2 Stonechat (resident pair), 15 Goldfinch, 80 Linnet, 2 Bullfinch.

Bishopsworth (Bristol):
Manor Woods: 4 Teal, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel (ringed bird), 2 Bullfinch.

St George (Bristol):
Park: 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Jay, 2 Nuthatch, 1 Mistle Thrush.

Eastville Park (Bristol):
2 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Firecrest (Colston Weir/Wickham Lane area), 1 Dipper of note.

St Phillips (Bristol):
Finzel's Reach: 2 Peregrine, the usual birds.

Does anyone know if the Wills building birds are still around? Our special agent at the University hasn't seen them recently.

Clifton Downs (Bristol):
2 Raven, feeding on the grass close to traffic.

Sea Mills (Bristol):
15 Lapwing, 1 Common Sandpiper, 30+ Redshank, 1 Kingfisher.

Bristol Centre:
BRI: 1 Peregrine, 1 Raven.
Castle Park: 1 GBB Gull.

Ashton Court (Bristol):
Mansion House environs: 1 Buzzard, 1 Stock Dove, 2 Green Woodpecker, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 8 Raven, 4 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Goldfinch.

Warmley Forest Park:
1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Coal Tit, 10 Blackbird, 4 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Treecreeper, 6 Chaffinch, 12 Greenfinch, 15 Goldfinch, 20 Siskin, 5 Redpoll, 8 Bullfinch.

Oldbury Power Station:
415 Curlew on the estuary sands including at least 9+ colour-ringed birds. These are part of some 165 birds ringed locally in 2010-2013 at Wibdon Warth (John Sanders).
Other stuff, 3 Grey Plover plus Dunlin (not counted).

1 Kestrel, 1 Reed Bunting, not knicker-gripping here this evening.

Northwick Warth:
32 Shelduck, 450 Wigeon, 20 Shoveler, 200 Dunlin, 1 Little Owl.

Portbury Wharf:
Pools: 1 Great Crested Grebe of high excitement.
Horse-field: 11 Lapwing, 20 Woodpigeon,14 Blackbird, 10 Redwing of note.

Portishead:
Boating Lake: 1 Greylag Goose, 10 Tufted Duck.
Coastal Path: 2 Chiffchaff.
Belton Rd: 1 Blackcap.

Kenn Moor:
61 Mute Swan, 40 Canada Goose, 5 Cormorant, 7 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron, 6 Little Grebe, 7 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Merlin, 2 Kingfisher, 1 Raven, 100+ Starling, 2 Stonechat.

Clevedon:
Woodland Glade: 5+ Coal Tit regular in the garden over the past few weeks (Helen Pedder).

Sand Bay:
Beach Rd: 2 Dartford Warbler still but mobile either side of the Pontin's entrance (Simon Williams).
2 Stonechat here also.

Bleadon:
River Axe sluice: 5 Goosander, 1 Little Egret, 2 Buzzard, 4 Green Sandpiper, 2 Kingfisher, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Raven, 30+ Fieldfare, 100+ Redwing, 1 Otter. Otter Gill says thank you.

Lulsgate:
Airport: 27 flyover Lapwing to south.

Blagdon Lake:
WeBS: 8 Mute Swan, 387 Canada Goose, 10 Barnacle Goose, 20 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 101 Teal, 71 Mallard, 10 Shoveler, 169 Pochard, 315 Tufted Duck, 22 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander, 7 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 13 Grey Heron, 15 Little Grebe, 18 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebe, 1 Water Rail, 19 Moorhen, 436 Coot, 50 Lapwing, 35 Snipe, 1 Common Sandpiper, 800 BH Gull, 3 Common Gull, 7 LBB Gull, 12 Herring Gull, 2 GBB Gull.
Other stuff, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel.

Planet Chew:
1 Wigeon, 11 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander, 21 Little Egret ( HG fields again), 3 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 63 Lapwing, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Jay, 2 Raven, 8 Long-tailed Tit, c.100 mixed Fieldfare/Redwing flocks, 2 Song Thrush, 1 Treecreeper, 10 House Sparrow, 2 Stonechat, 2 Bullfinch.
The waterbirds were jumpy in Heron's Green again today so the Otter may still be around.
